We seek an experienced and motivated Apprentice Carpenter to join our dynamic team at Inco Building System. An apprentice carpenter at Inco Building System is in a multiple-stage training program and eager to learn from an experienced professional carpenter.
- The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, at the project location.
- The applicant must hold a valid NC driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Salary for the position is preset and determined by candidate experience.
- The Apprentice Carpenter will report directly to the Lead Carpenter.
- The Apprentice Carpenter will work on assigned residential and commercial construction projects.
- Apprentice Carpenters are always the first on-site worker each morning, and the last to leave each evening, and are always accessible by email, phone, or text.
- Across all assigned projects, Inco Building System Apprentice Carpenters assist the team to deliver successful projects on time and under budget.
Safety Skills Development of the Apprentice Carpenter:
During the apprenticeship, an Apprentice Carpenter is expected to learn, understand, and practice safety practices and applications, including, but not limited to:
- Jobsite Safety: Safe Work Environment. Safety Habits. Daily Safety Checklist.
- Safety Awareness: Identifying potential hazards and taking appropriate precautions to eliminate or minimize them, as well as educating the entire safety team.
- Safety Committee: Assisting in workplace safety enhancements by reporting unsafe conditions, participating in safety training, and making suggestions to improve safe working conditions at all times for all workers.
- Safe Operation of Tools and Equipment: In this training program, workers learn how to safely use, and operate the tools and equipment they use every day, and work around on a daily basis.
- Safety Tools and Equipment: Apprentice Carpenters are expected to learn and use essential safety tools and equipment every day on a construction site, including: hard hats (head protection), safety glasses (eye protection), hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs), safety gloves, safety shoes or boots (foot protection), high-visibility clothing, and fire extinguishers, all considered part of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Carpentry Skills Development of the Apprentice Carpenter:
NOTE: It is expected that an Apprentice Carpenter will learn, understand and progress while they work around, and/or be involved in a wide range of tasks, such as, but not limited to:
- Layout of Buildings: Locate/Establish/Position all Building Corners
- Foundation Layout: Locate/Establish/Position the Foundation System.
- Leveling and Squaring Foundation: Using Transit and Laser Levels, Batterboards and String Line Installation to establish foundation outline location
- Foundation Forming: Metal Form Boards an Wood Form Boards to Establish the the Monolithic Slab Foundation location, size, height and depth
- Light Metal Framing: Floor Systems, Wall Systems, Ceiling Systems and Roof Systems. Mezzanines. Metal Stud Framing and Light Gauge Steel Framing
- CFS: Cold Form Steel Framing: CEEs and ZEEs Steel Framing
- Red Iron Metal Framing: CEEs and ZEEs Steel Framing
- Wood Framing: Floors, Walls, Ceilings, Roofs, Stairways and Landings
- Personnel Door Installation: Plumb, Level and Square the Steel Frame and Hollow-Core Steel Slab, Install Sill and Weather-Stripping, the Interior Push Bar, Closure, and Exterior Keyed Lockset.
- Rollup Door Installation: Plumb, Level and Square the Steel Frame and Drum, Install Weather-Stripping, the Interior Stops and Locking Push Bars.
- Window Installation: Plumb, Level and Square each window unit, Install Drip Cap Flashing and Water-Proofing, and lock-out of each unit.
- Cleaning: Daily Clean-up and Organization of Work Areas
Advanced Skills Development of the Apprentice Carpenter:
- Reading and Interpreting Engineering Drawings and Data
- Reading and Interpreting Construction Drawings and Specifications
- Hand and Power Tool Selection, Usage and Safety
- Heavy Equipment Selection and Licensed Operator Safety
- Identifying Different types of Steel and Wood Components per Application
- Measuring and Cutting Steel and Wood Components
- Positioning and Fastening Steel and Wood Components
- Assembling Steel and Wood Components per Working Drawings
- Assembling Steel and Wood Components to Create Structures
Key Responsibilities of the Apprentice Carpenter:
- Apprentice carpenters should possess a positive attitude, a desire to learn and develop, and a willingness to take on increasing responsibilities and independence.
- Apprentice Carpenters must be capable of working independently within their capabilities and completing all tasks assigned to them from the start.
- Apprentice Carpenters agree to work hard and develop their skills, as well as move up to open available positions inside the Inco company.
- Apprentice Carpenters agree to learn from, and work with Inco team members in a cooperative and productive manner at all times while on Inco jobsites.

- Daily Preparation, Setup and Takedown of Work Areas
- Daily Pickup and Storage of Tools and Equipment
- Daily Clean-up and Organization of Work Areas
- Organization of Building Materials and Components
- Protection and Covering of Building Materials and Components
- Material Handling and Movement of Building Materials and Components
- Measurement, Cutting, Fastening and Assembly of Building Materials and Components
- Assisting in the Framing and Erection of Steel and Wood Building Materials and Components
Required Skills for a Apprentice Carpenter:
- It is necessary that an apprentice carpenter possess basic math skills, is able to read and interpret construction drawings, has hand and power tool experience, has good hand-eye coordination, is physically fit, pays attention to details, and is willing to learn from experienced carpenters. In general, the job involves measuring, cutting, and assembling materials in accordance with engineering drawings.

- Proficiency with various power and hand tools
Education:
- Applicants must have a high school diploma as the minimum requirement.
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of technical training and/or extensive experience in construction, design, finance, and management required.
- Related technical Certifications, Coursework, Continuing Education
Experience:
- Verifiable On-the-Job Experience is required for this position.
- One-year minimum experience with a building construction company.
- Option: One-year practical experience commercial construction jobsites, preferably Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) projects.
Physical:
- Walking on uneven surfaces. Walking uphill and downhill.
- Working different weather conditions.
- Sit, stand, or walk for the duration of a shift or workday.
- Bending, kneeling, and stooping for the duration of a shift or workday.
- Frequent reaches above shoulder levels and below the waist.
- Use ladders and scaffolding routinely.
- Regularly works near heavy machinery and equipment that moves.
- An extended period of sitting , standing and working on a task.
- Exposure to outdoor environments with machinery/equipment nearby.
- It is necessary to wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to steel toe shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats and vests, long shirts and pants.
- Motor vehicle operator who is capable of operating equipment safely.
