We seek an experienced and motivated Lead Carpenter to join our dynamic team at Inco Building System. Lead Carpenters plan and complete assigned work tasks while maintaining high quality standards. The Lead Carpenter will oversee and perform metal and wood framing, foundation layout, and interior trim work on commercial and residential projects.
- The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, at the project location.
- The applicant must hold a valid NC driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Salary for a position is determined by the candidate's experience.
- Bonuses and profit-sharing with conditions are part of the position.
- The Lead Carpenter will report directly to the vice president of construction.
- Lead Carpenters are always the first on-site worker each morning, and the last to leave each evening, and are always accessible by email, phone, or text.
- The Lead Carpenter is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of assigned projects from pre-construction, and job start-up to job close-out.
- The Lead Carpenter is responsible for scheduling, managing, and leading all necessary teams and personnel on site and resolving all issues to meet production goals.
- Across all assigned projects, Inco Building System Lead Carpenters deliver successful projects on time and under budget.
Work Requirements of the Lead Carpenter:
- Laying Out The Building: Foundation Layout. Locate/Establish building corners based on the Surveyor Pins or Surveyor boundary stakes/markers/pipes
- Leveling and Squaring Foundation: Using Transit and Laser Levels, Batterboards and String Line Installation to establish foundation outline location
- Foundation Forming: Metal Form Boards an Wood Form Boards to Establish the the Monolithic Slab Foundation location, size, height and depth
- Light Metal Framing: Floor Systems, Wall Systems, Ceiling Systems and Roof Systems. Mezzanines. Metal Stud Framing and Light Gauge Steel Framing
- CFS: Cold Form Steel Framing: CEEs and ZEEs Steel Framing
- Red Iron Metal Framing: CEEs and ZEEs Steel Framing
- Wood Framing: Floors, Walls, Ceilings, Roofs, Stairways and Landings
- Personnel Door Installation: Plumb, Level and Square the Steel Frame and Hollow-Core Steel Slab, Install Sill and Weather-Stripping, the Interior Push Bar, Closure, and Exterior Keyed Lockset.
- Rollup Door Installation: Plumb, Level and Square the Steel Frame and Drum, Install Weather-Stripping, the Interior Stops and Locking Push Bars.
- Window Installation: Plumb, Level and Square each window unit, Install Drip Cap Flashing and Water-Proofing, and lock-out of each unit.
Key Responsibilities of the Lead Carpenter:
- Commercial Construction: The Lead Carpenter will be assigned to work on a commercial jobsite for Inco Building System on a daily basis.
- Residential Construction: The Lead Carpenter will be assigned to work on a residential jobsite for Inco Building System on a daily basis.
- Project Start-up: The Lead Carpenter will participate in preconstruction meetings with the Building Owner and Inco Management Team to gain a better understanding of the project and the Owner.
- Building Inspections: Schedule and meet with building inspectors during the project as required by inspections until the final inspection is approved.
- Building Layout: Layout the foundation of each building according to the plat plan and surveyor pins, and install level and square batterboards with string lines.
- Project Management: Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, working drawings, creating material lists, managing project timelines, and ensuring adherence to project specifications.
- Team Leadership: Supervising and assigning tasks to other carpenters and apprentices, providing guidance and training as needed.
- Quality Control: Maintaining high standards of craftsmanship, inspecting the work performed by the team, and addressing any quality concerns.
- Communication: Collaborating with project managers, other trades, and clients to ensure clear communication and address any issues promptly.
- Carpentry Skills: Performing complex carpentry tasks such as framing, finishing, cabinetry, and trim work, depending on project requirements.
- Jobsite Safety: Enforcing safety protocols on the job site and ensuring all team members follow proper safety procedures in compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Problem-Solving: Identifying and resolving any issues during construction, including material discrepancies or design changes.
Required Skills for a Lead Carpenter:
- Advanced carpentry skills and building code knowledge

- Ability to read and interpret plans and engineering documents
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Experience managing a carpenter team
- Proficiency with various power and hand tools
Education:
- Applicants must have a high school diploma as the minimum requirement.
- Apprenticeship Program Certification is preferred .
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of technical training and/or extensive experience in construction, design, finance, and management required.

Experience:
- Verifiable On-the-Job Experience is required for this position.
- Five-year practical experience commercial construction jobsites, preferably Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) projects.
Physical:
- Walking on uneven surfaces. Walking uphill and downhill.
- Working different weather conditions.
- Sit, stand, or walk for the duration of a shift or workday.
- Bending, kneeling, and stooping for the duration of a shift or workday.
- Frequent reaches above shoulder levels and below the waist.
- Use ladders and scaffolding routinely.
- Regularly works near heavy machinery and equipment that moves.
- An extended period of sitting , standing and working on a task.
- Exposure to outdoor environments with machinery/equipment nearby.
- It is necessary to wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to steel toe shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats and vests, long shirts and pants.
- Motor vehicle operator who is capable of operating equipment safely.
- At times, must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.
